Dangermouse E9 7a, Miles Gibson frees Wimberry arete

On 26/09/2009 British climber Miles Gibson made the first ascent of Dangermouse E9 7a at Wimberry, Peak District.

Last Saturday Miles Gibson carried out a dangerous first ascent up the central exposed arete at the gritstone crag Wimberry in the Peak District. Gibson's "Dangermouse" takes some gear low down but then follows a lone line of pebbles and poor crimps along the north facing arete.

Gibson is no newcomer to hard ascents: more than a decade ago he established Superstition E8 7a Burgabge North, and more recently he enriched Moorside Rocks with the highball Superbloc Fb8a. When not spending time on despate single pitches, Gibson has contributed to some notable hard multi-pitch first ascents, including the epic "Rainbow Jambaia" E7 6c, at Angel Falls in Venezuela and "Twenty One" E7 6c at Torssuagatoq Sound in Southern Greenland.
