Ekstaza 8c+/9a for Matej Sova at Misja Pec

30.01.2007 by Nicholas Hobley

At the end of December 2006 Matej Sova succeeded in the first ascent of his "Ekstaza", at Misja Pec, a 40m 90 move stamina testpiece which he believes to be somewhere in the region of 8c+/9a.

Misja Pec continues to be the breeding ground for some of the hardest sports climbs in Slovenia. At the end of December Matej Sova succeeded in the first ascent of his "Ekstaza", a 40m 90 move stamina testpiece which he believes to be somewhere in the region of 8c+/9a. The route climbs the exisiting "Clovek ne jezi", an 8c in its own right, before extending upwards.

"I think there are too many places to rest for it to be a real 9a, but it is harder than every other 8c+ in the crag. Time will tell" is what Matej had to say about the route. He should know. He's climbed most of the routes at Misja, including Slovenia's hardest sport climb "Martin Krpan" 9a.
