Salewa Rockshow 2013, the start!
The tour promoted by Salewa to discover the climber of the future begins again this April. Five Italian climbing gyms take part in the event which spans 9 countries.
The Salewa Rock Show 2013 is about to kick off. For the fifth year running the international tour, open to everyone, will begin with the traditional Rock Calling stage.
Those who have already taken part in this climbing fest won't need further explanation, they know that the even is as beautiful as it is fun. But since the formula is so simple, it's worth looking into quickly: the show commences with the first stage - called RockCalling - consisting of 5 events. A quintet of mini bouldering comps, five great occasions to climb and have fun with friends. These kick off in Italy in mid-Aprilm at Milan's Tonic Network Benessere, and the gym il.PUNTO Borgo San Dalmazzo (CN). The tour continues in May at the 7A climbing gym at Valdagno (VI) and Blockhaus Climbing Garage at Pescara, before finishing off at the Topo Pazzo Climbing House in Verres (AO).
The best male and female climber of each of these stages will qualify for the next RockShow which, as its name suggests, takes place outdoors at the crags. After last year's beautiful Sardinian limestone, the top 10 will travel deep into the heart of the Dolomites in Val Gardena. Awaiting them, from 14 to 16 June, will be not only the fabulous boulders at the Città dei Sassi at the foot of Sassolungo, but also a selection of athletes belonging to the Salewa alpineXtrem team. There'll be winners here, too, namely two "Climber of the Day" who will take part in the finals scheduled for 18 - 19 July 2013 at the Salewa Cube climbing gym in Bolzano.
The Rockshow finals in Bolzano? Yes, the last stage won't take place during the Outdoors trade fair at Friedrichshafen as in the past but directly in the Salewa headquarters. This beautiful, futuristic "cube" will host the best Italians as well as the best of all the other countries that participated in the tour that, in recent years, has grown considerably to become not only a European, but also a worldwide phenomenon. In fact, the Rock Calling will take place in Austria, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, France, Spain, Czech Republic and, as of this year, in South Korea and China! The strongest of each of these countries will be greeted by the "best of the best", namely bouldering champion Rustam Gelmanov who will award the prestigious title "Climber of the Tour". But these (great) titles, what renders this event unique is the spirit with which climbers take part: it's a sort of meet, an informal competition and at the same time great chance to meet other climbers, a pleasant mix of competition and fun. Enjoy the climbing!
