Jungfrau illuminated to celebrate mountain railway centenary

The North Face of the Jungfrau (4158m) in Switzerland is currently being illuminated to celebrate the centenary of the Jungfrau Railway.

An enormous light spectacle created by light artist Gerry Hofstetter is currently on display to celebrate the first 100 years of the Jungfraubahn, the rack-and-pinion railway in the Bernese Oberland.

The North Face of the Jungfrau, one of Switzerland's most famous mountains located right next to the Eiger and Mönch, is illuminated at night by images which include the Swiss cross and the train itself, as well as Adolf Guyer-Zeller, the founder of the train which transports circa 700,000 passengers yearly from Kleine Scheidegg to the highest train station in Europe on the Jungfraujoch at 3454m.

Weather permitting, the images can be seen live on the webcam every night until 8 January.
