Climbing at Kalymnos... a sea of rock

With the weather quickly hotting it up in Kalymnos, a handful of strong climbers have just managed to send some of their projects on this small Greek island. Kalymnos "local" Aris Theodoropoulos reports that Nicolas Favresse returned home to Belgium with a star prize: the first ascent of the 30m "Gora gu ta gutarrak" 8c+ 30m, a new line left of Lucky Luca in the Odyssey sector. Favresse needed a total of 10 days to send the route which he feels is very conditions dependant. Temperature and humidity were obvioulsy perfect: later that day Nicolas also on-sighted the classic "Gaia" 8b. During his stay Favresse also repeated "Lucky Luca ext" 8c and "Los Kukos" 8c.

Theodoropoulos continues with his roundup: "in late April Frenchman Yann Ghesquiers repeated the 65m "Titantrope" 8c+, first climbed by Dave Graham during last October’s Roctrip. Ghesquiers also on-sighted almost a dozen 8a and 8a+, while his partner Olivier Fourbet on-sighted "Rendez-vous with Platon" 8b.

Last but not least, Frenchman Francois Legrand is currently on Kalymnos trying to make what might be the first 9a on the island, "Mammifere Vibes extension". Note that this has already been tried by Chris Sharma and Sylvain Millet." Stay tuned…
