On 20 August British mountaineer Sir Chris Bonington, together with Leo Houlding, climbed The Old Man of Hoy, Orkney Islands, UK. The ascent celebrates Bonington's 80th birthday and is aimed at raising awareness and funds for motor neurone disease (MND) charities.

The IFSC Speed World Cup was won by France’s Anouck Jaubert and Czech climber Libor Hroza who, in his race to win gold, set a new world record stopping the clock after 5.73 seconds. Alessandro Santoni from nearby Riva del Garda finishes third.

In the women's Janicot is joined by Röck, Markovic, Durif, Lavarda, Malamid, Becerra, Fakhritdinova and Claudia Ghisolfi. The final begins this evening at 20.00.
