Gran Sasso Ultimatum alla Terra, probable first repeat

On Sunday, July 19, 2015 Cristiano Iurisci, Stefano Supplizi and Luca Gasparini carried out the probable first repeat of the difficult rock climb route 'Ultimatum alla Terra' on the North West Face Vetta Orientale, in the Gran Sasso massif. A 360m grade VI climb first ascended by Piero Ledda and Roberto Iannill in 1999. Iannill looks back on that ascent.

Arco Rock Legends 2015: 10 years of Simply the Best

On Friday, September 4, 2015 the Arco Rock Legends will celebrate its 10th edition and assign the prestigious Salewa Rock Award and La Sportiva Competition Award during the Rock Master Festival and the World Youth Climbing Championships 2015. Those nominated for the sport climbing Oscars are Angela Eiter, Alexander Megos and Ashima Shiraishi, while those in the running for the La Sportiva Competition Award are Adam Ondra, Jain Kim and Jakob Schubert. The prestigious Climbing Ambassador by Aquafil will be awarded to John Ellison, founder of the initiative Climbers against Cancer.

On Wedndesday 22 July 2015 Dutch alpinist Martjin Seuren lost his life in a fall while climbing the Rochefort ridge in the Mont Blanc massif. He had been climbing with another alpinist and Ueli Steck, currently attempting the 82 peaks over 4,000 meters in the Alps in 80 days. With this ascent Seuren would have become the first Dutchman to climb all 4,000 meter peaks in the Alps.
