Beautiful icefall with a demanding first pitch which climbs a corner broken by a roof and hanging drip. The second pitch is somewhat easier and climbs a finishing hanging drip up a section of 95° ice.
GETTING THERE
From Udine: take the A23 motorway and exit at Camporosso. Continue towards Tarvisio (3km) and then follow signs for Slovenia-Cave del Predil. After circa 5 km reach the small village Rio Freddo (817 mt); park opposite the church.
ACCESS
Take the forest road which leads off from the car park (in winter this is often cleared) and walk up this for circa 5 km to a wide clearing and a hut on the right (1000m). Descend to the left down to the river and walk up along this towards the rock face (1.30 hours). From the base of the wall continue left to reach the other "Tridente" icefalls. 2.00 hours.
