Cold Couloir
Cold couloir is a grand and magnificent climb, often in good conditions. The icefall is long and similar to routes at altitude. Most climbers reach the top of pitch 5 and then abseil off as the upper section proves less interesting.
GETTING THERE
From Cogne drive to Lillaz.
ACCESS
From the car park at Lillaz walk along the cross country piste on the hydrographic left of Valeille and then continue along the path. Walk past the enormous boulder and reach an obvious cement dam: cross this and reach the base of the icefall as best possible (1 hour).
DESCENT
Abseil descent from the 5th pitch. The icefall becomes less interesting higher up. Should you wish to summit, climb the last drip then traverse right to reach the obvious gully which leads back down into the valley.
GEAR
Normal ice climbing gear
