If there is snow cover the icefall is extremely dangerous. The third pitch is outstanding.

Getting there

From the Aosta West motorway exit drive through Cogne and continue to Valnontey. Park at the end of the road.

Access

From Valnontey follow the the cross country piste to where the piste loop returns. Gran Val is located 200m further up and is reached by crossing the bridge (30 mins).

Descent

Bolt abseil.

Gear

Normal ice climbing gear.
