Yesterday the Red Bull Der Lange Weg came to an end in Nice, France. The long ski mountaineering traverse across the Alps from Vienna to Nice was completed by Bernhard Hug, David Wallmann, Philipp Reiter and Janelle Smiley and Mark Smiley after 1,721 kilometers and gained almost 90,000 meters height difference.

French alpinist Sonia Livanos passed away on 15 April 2018 in Marseilles hospital at the age of 95. In the '50s and' 60s together with her husband Georges Livanos she formed one of the strongest climbing partnerships in the Dolomites and beyond.

For the last 20 days Tamara Lunger, Núria Picas, Janelle Smiley, Mark Smiley, David Wallmann, Philipp Reiter and Bernhard Hug have been traversing across the Alps from Vienna to Nice. While Núria Picas has pulled out of the Red Bull Der Lange Weg, the others have crossed the Spluga Pass and are continuing westwards.

The Red Bull Der Lange Weg got underway today at 10:00am. The ski mountaineering traverse across the Alps from Vienna to Nice will be attempted by Tamara Lunger, Núria Picas, Janelle Smiley, Mark Smiley, David Wallmann, Philipp Reiter and Bernhard Hug. Following in the footsteps of the historic 1971 Austrians Robert Kittl, Klaus Hoi, Hansjörg Farbmacher and Hans Mariacher, the 2018 team aims to complete the traverse in less than 41 days.

European Ski Mountaineering Championships 2018: Robert Antonioli and Axelle Mollaret win Individual Race. All Mt. Etna results

The ISMF European ski mountaineering championships took place last week on Mt Etna in Sicily, Italy. Robert Antonioli and Axelle Mollaret won the Individual race, ahead of Michele Boscacci and Laetitia Roux, and Kilian Jornet Burgada and Emelie Forsberg, silver and bronze respectively. The Vertical Race was won by Kilian Jornet Burgada and Axelle Mollaret, ahead of Davide Magnini and Victoria Kreuzer who placed second and Antonio Alcalde and Alba De Silvestro who placed third.

The European Ski Mountaineering Championships 2018 get underway today on the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily, Italy. The competitions take place on the North Face of the volcano from 22 - 24 February.

Ski Mountaineering World Cup: Xavier Gachet and Laetitia Roux win in Villars

The second stage of the Ski Mountaineering World Cup 2018 took place at Villars-sur-Ollon in Switzerland last weekend. France’s Xavier Gachet and Laetitia Roux won the Individual race, ahead of Robert Antonioli and Axelle Mollaret, second, and Michele Boscacci and Victoria Kreuzer, third. The Sprint Race had to be cancelled due to problems caused by the bad weather.
