This event is also the last and conclusive event of the Interreg IIIB Alpine Space “Alpine Awareness” project. In the frame of this project within the last three years transnational actions have been carried out in order to make the public (young people, tourism and transport operators and local administrators) aware of sustainable mobility.

Mission SuperAlp!
The aim of SuperAlp is to make the local population and the visitors aware of the use of sustainable transport means, through the journalists’ reports and the making of a documentary. This is way to show that soft mobility in the Alps is not only possible, but represents also a nice way to enjoy a new form of mobility that is more aware and friendly to environment, health and sociality.

The SuperAlp tour
For ten days a group of journalists of international repute will cross mountains of five European countries exclusively with the sustainable transport means available on site. From the Mont Blanc cableway to the Glacier Express in Switzerland, from the bicycle along the Venosta valley, Drava and Lunga via delle Dolomiti to the electric transport means in Werfenweng, but also walking along the Via Alpina footpaths.
Starting point is the french resort of Les Gets. By travelling through Switzerland, Austria and Germany, the SuperAlp group will reach the final leg in Belluno. The travels will allways be undertaken by buses, local trains, bicycle routes and, if necessary, by cableway, experimenting thereby sustainable mobility in the Alps.

SuperAlp and the “Alpine Pearls”
Rucksack on the back, at the end of each of the ten stops, the participants will reach six resorts making part of the “Alpine Pearls” circuit. This network reunites 21 Alpine municipalities that have activated an innovative touristic offer based on “soft” mobility. The six “Alpine Pearls” will present themselves with special events and will offer hospitality to the travellers’ caravan. Moreover, the SuperAlp group will stop in Brig (Switzerland), Alpine City of the year 2008 and in Bolzano/Bozen, where the six South Tyrolean resorts associated to the Alpine Pearls network will be presented. In Bolzano/Bozen the participants will also have the chance to experience in person the city’s cycling system which represents a shining example at a European level.

The Alpine Pearls
Italy: Chamois, Nova Ponente, Feltre, Forni di Sopra, Pieve di Cadore, Racines, Sauris, Collepietra, Tires, Funes, Nova Levante.
Germany: Bad Reichenhall, Berechtesgaden. France: Les Gets, Morzine-Avoriaz, Villard de Lans. Austria: Hinterstoder, Neukirchen, Werfenweng. Switzerland: Arosa, Interlaken.
