Bird's-eye view of Vajont dam, 54 years after the disaster
The drone footage of Alessandro Menafra to remember the Vajont disaster that ocurred in Italy on 9 October, 1963.
The images are spectacular of what, when conscruted in 1960, was the highest dam in the world. Featured below is the footage filmed by Alessandro Menafra of the Vajont Dam, the Vajont valley and the small village of Casso located above the dam at an altitude of 950m. The video is a haunting reminder of the terrible tragedy that occured in the evening of 9 October 1963 when a massive landslide from Monte Toc fell caused a devastating wave which caused nearly 2000 victims in Longarone below and the neighboring villages in the Piave valley.
