RockShow, 2013: Pescara rocks!

The fourth stage of the Salewa Rockshow 2013 took place on Saturday 18 May at Pescara, proving to be a huge success. The organisers interpreted the spirit of the event perfectly and entertained over 80 climbers and their entourage of family and friends for 12 hours.

The competition was held in three shifts of two hours each. Contrary to predictions, the first shift at 10.30 was the most crowded, evidently people were eager to get some climbing done. The amateurs competed on 12 relatively easy problems that provided everyone with the opportunity to enjoy themselves. Some of the best climbers in the region took part in the expert league, including Matteo Cittadini (climber, alpinist and pro skier), Lorenzo Angelozzi (another young alpinist with numerous solo ascents and expeditions to the Greater Ranges under his belt), Massimiliano Palmucci (expert local sports climber) and Danilo Marchionne (talented competition climber with great results both on plastic and at the crag). Two female climbers are worth mentioning, too: young competition climber Sara Giuseppetti and Vanessa Marchionne, keen on defending her title after having won last year's Rockshow stage at l'Aquila.

Only two however would qualify for the Italian finals, scheduled to take place in Val Gardena in June: 23-year-old Matteo Cittadini from l’Aquila and 16-year-old Sara Giuseppetti from Ascoli Piceno.

The Expert's Final took place on two problems, somewhat longer than the ones used in the earlier qualification; one for the women and one for the men and while in the men's event a further problem was needed to split the athletes, in the women's event Sara Giuseppetti clinched victory with a convincing flash. Important support for the smooth running of the competition was provided by Smog and Wild Climb.

The event was made all the more fun thanks to some side events such as the table boulder problem (rotate all the way around the table without ever touching the ground), music and a tasty snack to recover from the stress and strains earlier in the day!

The next competition is scheduled to take place on Saturday 8 June at Verres in the province of Aosta. The event is organised together with SALEWA Store Aosta and will take start at 19:00 at the Topo Pazzo Climbing House gym.

Rock this world! ;-)
