Jorg Verhoeven and the life saving climbing helmet

The video of Dutch rock climber Jorg Verhoeven as he falls headfirst off a trad climb in Colorado, USA and is saved by his climbing helmet.

Climbing helmets? Absolutely indispensable to protect your head, not only against falling stones but also, at times, to absorb the impact if you slam against the rock in an uncontrolled fall. This is precisely what happened the other day to expert climber Jorg Verhoeven who slipped in the worst possible moment on a trad climb in Dream Canyon close to Boulder, Colorado, with the rope behind his leg. Here are the Dutchman’s words of warning.
