Jakob Schubert is on form like never before. Renowned above as a lead competition climber (he won the Lead World Cup 2014 for example) and for his cutting-edge sport climbs (at the end on 2014 he became one of the few climbers in the world to send 9b, Fight or Flight at Oliana), in truth Schubert is a real "climbing machine" capable of producing astounding results in bouldering, too. So much so that in both 2012 and 2013 he won a stage of the Bouldering World Cup, while last year he sent his first 8B+ boulder, Meadowlark Lemon at Las Vegas, USA.

Schubert has now raised the bar once again with his repeat of Bügeleisen Sit in the Maltatal, a beautiful alpine valley famous for its ice climbing in winter and for its sport climbing and boudlering in summer. As many will remember, Bügeleisen stand start was freed back in 2001 by Klem Loskot and graded 8B+. After making the first repeat in May 2014, Nalle Hukkataival then added the sit start to produce an 8C he defined as "one of the BEST hard boulders in the world."

A fortnight ago Schubert tried the problem together with Kilian Fischhuber in less than ideal conditions (for the record, Fischhuber has managed the stand start in the meantime) and yesterday Schubert repeated the stand start in "simply perfect conditions." Seeing that the day was still young, he then also grabbed the first repeat of the sit start. 8C bouldering, 9b sport climbing, an unrivaled competition curriculum… yes, an absolute climbing machine.
