Melloblocco 2015: day 3 Adam Ondra sending Mare Vostrum
OpenCircle / Melloblocco 2015
I have been going to Melloblocco off and on since 2008. And it always rains a bit. But nevertheless the weather always holds up and is good enough to play on the amazing boulders in the valley.

If you have never been to Melloblocco and don’t know the area, it’s hard to imagine squeezing 9000 people into the valley. It may even sound horrifying. But actually it works! Obviously every boulderer is different: some prefer to climb in solitude, others like to climb with an encouraging group of passionate climbers. And despite so many people being in one tiny valley, Val di Mello is big enough to suit everyone’s needs. Because there is rock just about everywhere, and if you want, all you need to do is turn the corner to climb completely alone.

The potential in Val Masino never ceases to amaze me, in particular the potential for hard boulders. The lines I’ve seen during the last years that remain unclimbed call for a longer visit and I can’t wait to return. In truth I’m just very surprised that more boulderers don’t go to the valley when conditions are prime to take a look at these futuristic lines.

As to myself and Melloblocco, I always really enjoy the event. Each year there are more and more fans and often they follow my progress throughout the day. Pictures, autographs, every day, all day long. It might get a little tiring after a while, but it’s all part of the game and if it makes people happy and motivates them, then I’m more than happy to be there for them.

I cannot imagine having a typical Melloblocco day every day of the year, but once in a while it’s great to see and share the passion of so many climbers in one single place. And Val Masino is the perfect location to make it happen. And, last but not least, the Italians are the best folk to organize and participate in such event. Thank you all! And see you next year.
