Snowboarding in Austria, Arlberg

Hasenfluh

This mountain should be situated in every skiing resort in the world as it is easily reached by chairlift and each of its faces can be skied on. Those new to Zürs immediately notice the untracked (in the morning) slopes that lead all the way down to the car. Almost too good to be true, it is possible to ski right down to the car in fresh powder snow! Here's how.

Alternative A: take the Muggengratbahn chairlift and follow the piste No. 7 to the start of the first wall. Exit the piste and continue leftwards, cutting across the southern Hasenfluh slope. Reach a small saddle and voilá, 700m of open slope all the way down to Zürs. Everybody can choose their own line, taking care not get too close to the cliffs.

Alternative B: traverse immediately beneath the Muggengratbahn chairlift along the Hasenfluh north face, passing beneath the avalanche barriers to reach a small saddle. This pistes that lead to Zürs are visible from here, and the descent starts from here. He who manages to almost reach the village off-piste wins.

Alternative B1: instead of traversing all the way to the saddle as described in Alternative B, ski down the northern face to the start of the Muggengratbahn chairlift.
