| Gear A full rack of nuts (at least two, ideally three of each small and medium sized wires), a good selection of camming devices (Friends, Camelots, etc.) and plenty of slings & prussik loops are essential. Traditional routes tend to weave their way up the face, requiring two 9mm ropes to reduce rope drag (50 m are sufficient, 55m offer more freedom). Helmets, although not used frequently, are obviously recommended, especially on all mountain crags (in particular on Cloggy since there is loose rock on the top). To avoid epics on sea cliffs, leave a spare abseil rope in place. Guidebooks British guidebooks are small works of art, including detailed approach & route descriptions, maps & drawings and information about mountain rescue, accommodation and the history of the crag. Guidebooks marked with * are ideal for climbers wanting a comprehensive introduction to the best routes on offer in a particular area. Tide-tables provide essential information about tidal movements, something which must be constantly borne in mind when climbing on sea cliffs.
